This is the key lecture of the five lectures on Keywords & Cultures revising the Williams’ approach. It posits there are at least ten advantages of Nair & deSouza’s approach, among which the scope of terms (including political terms like “policy paralysis”, spiritual terms like “dharma”, and “upstart words” like “beauty parlour” and “gym”. Moreover, Nair & deSouza (2020) discuss abortion, using radically new keywords such as “female foeticide”. And other forms of post-colonial communal violence are discussed. This raises the question of how the Indian culture will continue to provide keywords for the global community.
